This chapter presents site accounts for each of the 40 IBAs selected in
Cambodia (see Map 3). The below notes are a key to the relevant fields.
Heading
IBA Code.
A unique code is given for each IBA. Codes for
Cambodian IBAs are prefixed by the letters KH, and comprise KH001 to KH040
inclusive.
IBA Name. The name of the IBA is given. IBA names are based either on
the names of the district (s) in which the IBA is located, or on a prominent
geographical feature, such as a river, mountain or marsh.
Criteria. The IBA criteria that the site qualifies under are listed.
Area. The area of the IBA is given in hectares. For most IBAs, the
precise boundaries have not yet been defined, and the area given is only
indicative.
Altitude. The approximate altitudinal range of the IBA is given in
metres above sea level.
Central Coordinates. The latitude and longitude of the central point
of the IBA are given, to the nearest minute.
General Description
This section concentrates on the
significance of the site for bird conservation, in particular the reasons
why the site was selected as an IBA. It contains a summary of available
information on location, boundaries, topography, ecology and current
management. In addition, the key features of the bird fauna of the IBA are
briefly summarised.
Key Bird Species
All category A1 (globally
threatened), category A2 (restricted-range) and category A4 (congregatory)
bird species recorded at the IBA since March 1992 are listed. For each
species, the common and scientific names are given, together with the IBA
criteria that the species meets. species whose occurrence at the IBA is
unconfirmed, species confirmed to occur but not thought to regularly occur
in significant numbers, and species for which there are only historical
records from the IBA are not listed. Rather, these species are mentioned in
the general decription.
Biome-restricted Species
The number of category A3
biome-restricted species is listed along with which of the four relevant
biomes they are restricted to.
Secondary Species
Globally threatened primate,
elephant and ungulate, turtle and crocodile and gymnosperm species that have
been recorded at the IBA are listed.
Threats to Biodiversity and Recommendations
The main threats to biodiversity and
management recommendations at each IBA are briefly summarised. The
information is compiled from a number of sources, including published and
unpublished reports and communications with field biologists.

All literature sources used to
compile the site account are listed.
